Each month we gather online with AIN Members, spending one hour together with intentional conversation, play, and the latest updates about the Applied Improvisation Network. 

About this session: 

In applied improv, we talk a lot about risk. We invite people to step into uncertainty. To speak before they’re ready. To try something without knowing how it will land.

But here’s the question:

What if the problem isn’t that people are unwilling to take risks…What if we’re simply asking for too much, too soon?

In this session, Jan Keck, facilitator and author of The Campfire Method, introduces one of the core concepts from his upcoming book.

Instead of designing “risk jumps” that require instant vulnerability, we’ll explore how to build progressive sequences that help groups warm up to courage. You’ll experience what it feels like to:

• Lower the cost of participation
• Escalate risk gradually and intentionally
• Design for skeptical, quiet, or resistant participants
• Create psychological safety without removing challenge

This will be hands-on and reflective. We’ll run a few short sequences, analyze the design behind them, and discuss how to apply risk ramps in corporate, educational, and community settings.
